PowerQuote is avilable as most systems with a basic PC database, or an advanced professional SQL Server RDBMS for network use. PowerQuote C/S allows clients running on one operating system to access the Server on either the same or a different platform and operating system from the client. A a common arrangement is to have inexpensive Windows PCs acting as client workstations to concurrently access a server running Windows or any of several vendors of UNIX including Linux.

• Reduced network traffic and Increased Speed. Network traffic is reduced and system speed significantly increased. Powerquote CS has been specifically designed as a true Client/Server application; it splits the processing load by using local client or “server side processing” as the situation dictates. Server side processing being used where information is best processed on the powerful server; only the result is sent to the client work station, eliminating heavy traffic back and forth across the network.
• Stability. Running a makeshift "file-served" PC database over a network using a Windows server may require the optimistic locking turning off in order to avoid the file corruption problems reported with PC databases on a Windows server. This can be a real problem in terms of reduced speed on busy networks - the optimistic locking strategy of a Windows server is not a problem to the SQL Server. The ability to rollback operations provides a more stable environment when a situation occurs: such as a power outage or system crash, which abnormally interrupts data transaction. This means data loss or corruption is unlikely in this event.
• Protection & Security. Administration of the database can be centrally maintained and user access can be limited. Most database administrators of a PC database typically copy a PC database to another location (after making sure everyone is 'off of the system') at night or at some other idle period. On our Client/Server version provides a backup utility that performs a transactional-state copy of the database to a (by default) compressed file. This can be done on a 'live' database while users are working.
• Portably. The Client/Server system is portable across many platforms.
• Concurrent Estimating. Upto 200 concurrent user-connections can work on the same area of the estimate concurrently.
• Direct Data Connections. In addition to an advanced SQL server, Powerquote CS has been designed to use direct data connections. This means there is no middleware required to connect the “database” to the “application”; as a result setup and maintenance is simplified and connection software such as ODBC, ADO, BDE, etc are all eliminated to make Powerquote CS even faster!
